Photo Manipulations and Ethics

A. What are some of the main points you read about in the website above regarding manipulating images? 

There are many rules that are used in manipulating images. Here are a few:
1.Photo cropping and image scaling helps create depth in the picture 
2.Simple Color change can alter the perception of those looking at the design of the picture.
3. As a journalist it is important to report what you see, like cropping, blemish reduction, and color modification.
Another main point of the article is the change of picture manipulation throughout history.

B. What is the philosophy of newspapers like the Washington Post and the New York times regarding image manipulation?

The philosophy for newspaper companies like the Washington Post and the New York times regarding image manipulation include strict guidelines on how to shoot and edit their photographs. Photojournalist are required to turn in their portfolios and all proof in order for their photograph to be used.


C. What do you think are acceptable things you could do to an image and not cross the line unto an unethical manipulation?

In order to keep an image as ethical as possible, you should be allowed to crop, and scale the image, and be able to do some simple color change.



D. Most Unethical

This picture manipulation is the most unethical because it crosses the manipulation line of rules. The picture contains some simple color change, some simple color change is ethical in picture manipulation. However the picture completely changes the face on the body which is most definitely unethical.







E. Least Unethical


This picture is the least unethical or the most ethical because it follows all the picture manipulation rues proposed by photojournalist. The picture correctly uses simple color change, this is a ethical photo manipulation rule. The picture also does some blemish reduction or text reduction which seems less unethical than the picture above.
